I pray that all is well with you and yours!

To address your points:

With all due respect to Imam al-Asi and his scholarly effort, his lectures are not proofs of the authenticity of historical matters. Im sure he spoke from his own research from various sources of history. However, that doesnt make what he says a definitive proof. I cited the opinions of the Imams of Ahl alBayt (as), as well as a reliable Sunni source (the Isaaba of Ibn Hajar) to prove what I said.

There are other issues regarding why we dont accept those narrations that Ibn Abbas opposed Imam Ali (as) and ran away with the Bayt al-Mal. Histrians report that there was a supposed reconciliation between the two of them. But there are no definitive details that say when it supposedly happened, why, or how.

There are also no records that indicated that Imam Ali (as) punished him for doing so after their supposed reconciliation. Stealing the money of the Bayt al-Mal is a capital offense! Remember his action against those who stole the money from the Bayt al Mal before al-Jamal!

Regarding what you said about others who praised Imam Ali's (as) virtues, the reason why I cited the virtues mentioned by Ibn Abbas (ra) is to show that it would seem unlikely that he would praise the Imam (as) for these virtues and his superior knowledge and then counter him. Others who praised the Imam did so because of the evident sagacity and wisdom that he possesed. However, to praise him for his unparelled knowledge and to hold him to be the appointee (wasi) of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, and then act contrary to his command would imply hypocrisy.

Futhermore, if we believed the accounts that mentioned that Ibn Abbas defied the orders of the imam of his time and ran away with the Bayt al-mal of Basra, this would ascribe two terrible crimes to Ibn Abbas (ra): treachery and thievery. Both of these crimes are condemned in the religion and merit eternal punishment in the HellFire! If that is the case, to say radiuAllahu anhu for him would be a moot point and futile!

Regarding Ibn Abbass' supposed support for temporary marriage, these reports appear in 12er and Sunni sources. However, as far as I know, there are no Zaydi sources that say that he held to the legitimacy of mu'ta. On the contrary, we have narrations in which he (ra) related that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny, condemned or abrogated it. So, this is not an issue in which he differed with Amir al-Muminin (as) about.

Regarding Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, the Zaydis adopt a neutral stance against him. We dont praise or condemn him.

Regarding Aqil bin Abu Talib, we say that he defected to Mu'awiya only after the death of Amir al-Muminin (as).

Allah knows best!

Salaam Brother
Forgive me for not providing references. You can refer to the following authors of history.
Imam Tabari, Ibn Sa'ed.

Anyway Jazakallah for your input.
